WHAT TO DO IN A DENTAL EMERGENCY

In all cases, it’s crucial to contact M.I. Dental Designs as soon as possible. Dr. Imam can provide specific instructions and arrange for immediate care if necessary.

Here’s what to do in common scenarios:

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Avoid applying aspirin directly to the tooth or gums. Contact your dentist if the pain persists.

  • Rinse your mouth and any broken pieces with warm water. If bleeding, apply a piece of gauze to the area for about 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops. A cold compress can help reduce swelling and pain.

  • Hold the tooth by the crown (not the root) and rinse it with water if dirty. Try to reinsert it into the socket if possible. If not, place it in a small container of milk and seek immediate dental attention.

  • If a crown falls off, try to place it back on the tooth with over-the-counter dental cement, toothpaste, or denture adhesive. If a filling is lost, sugar-free gum can temporarily fill the space. See your dentist as soon as possible.

  • These can be serious and should not be ignored. Rinse with mild salt water several times a day to reduce pain and draw the pus to the surface. See your dentist immediately.

  • For injuries to the tongue, cheeks, gums, and lips, rinse your mouth with a mild salt-water solution. Apply a moistened piece of gauze or tea bag to the area with pressure to control bleeding.

For severe or potentially life-threatening situations, such as swelling that impedes breathing, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

WHY SEE AN EMERGENCY DENTIST

Prompt treatment prevents an issue from getting worse. If you’ve put off receiving dental care for a painful or problematic tooth, we will help you without making you feel embarrassed.

Some of the reasons to see an emergency dentist include:

  • A persistent toothache is most often a symptom of an infection that will continue to progress unless it’s treated. Root canal treatment will remove the infection. The infected pulp tissue will be replaced with a dental filler material. You will also need a dental crown to cover and protect the tooth from further damage.

  • Impact to your face or mouth in an accident or while playing sports can damage your teeth. A tooth can be damaged although it may not hurt, be loose, or have visible signs of damage. Even if your tooth looks and feels okay, it’s best to have it examined right away.

  • A cracked tooth might not be painful at all, or the pain might come and go. The damage can irritate the inner soft tissue, or pulp, in the tooth. Without prompt care, the crack can expand, the pulp can be damaged, and the tooth might need to be extracted.

  • A dental crown protects and covers a tooth that is weak or damaged. If you have a crown that was broken or lost, it needs to be replaced to prevent further damage to the tooth.

For all urgent dental issues, Dr. Imam utilizes high-quality materials and advanced technology such as the SprintRay 3D printer for immediate creation of temporary crowns or fillings, ensuring a swift and effective response to emergencies.

“I felt compelled to write this review to remind everyone the cup is HALF FULL. I broke my tooth; wasn't pretty needed immediate attention. I called my long-term dentist's office. Turns out the sold to someone else. I was in that chair 5 minutes and KNEW this grumpy old guy who hated his job looked at my situation as a significant inconvenience. I got out of there fast. New dentist... ugh... To say God opened the most amazing door as one closed is an understatement. The work I had done was difficult. I was not an established patient. These two facts didn't disrupt Dr. Imam even a tiny bit. Kind, thoughtful, direct and warm all rolled into one. Intake was seem-less and easy. Clear expectations on pricing given upfront. Staff was fantastic and clearly love their employer; that spoke a thousand words. Thank you, Dr. Imam, you have a new forever patient! Thank you!”
